Hi guys, in this week's blog we will be looking into a growing yet unknown problem that our country is facing in the current times. We will be seeing a likely scenario in which we will be loosing an area equal to Pakistan in the coming years and this has nothing to do with war or territorial disputes yet another reason.
As the COP26 meeting is going on in Glasgow, Scotland a recent report was released which stated which all cities are going to be under water in the next 9 years. Looks like 3 of the major cities from India are in the list too. The list includes a major chunk of Mumbai, Kochi and Kolkata. Is that it? No guys its not yet over the report is only the beginning.
With the change in climatic there is going to be a drastic effect on the Western Ghats as mentioned in the Gadgil commission. So here is the link, In south India we can find a lot of rivers draining both into the Arabian and the Bay of Bengal seas right, ever wondered why they the rivers are draining their water into the seas or oceans? Seems like a waste of fresh drinkable water right? What will happen if they didn't?
So with the distortion in the climatic condition there will be disruption in the rainfall pattern in the southern peninsula which will in turn affect the water availability in the river system. What does this rivers do? It is actually the duty of these river system to check and balance the amount of salinity that enters in the soil from the seas surrounding our country any disruption in the balance of water levels of river systems will simply let loose the sea water to enter into the southern peninsula. This will cause the salinity in the area to increase and result in lose of fertility of that region. Which means a vast majority of habitable region down south will become inhabitable all of a sudden. This will cause a massive exodus of the population from south to the central and north of the country.
So it is better to look into this issue with at most caution and not to coverup natural ponds and lakes in our country as they are very much essential for our survival in the coming years.
